Calgary is gorgeous in the fall. That’s why Calgarians don’t mind getting out and doing things all autumn long! Here are some of the fun events taking place this October!

SCREAMFEST

Western Canada’s biggest horror themed extravaganza, ScreamFest takes place every weekend through October at The Grandstand Building in Stampede Park. Made by, and for, fans of horror, this is like a haunted house on steroids… spooky steroids! Filled with several unique haunted house experiences like the Bates Motel, Clown Town, and What Lurks in The Dark, as well as thriller rides like the Neighbours From Hell simulation, escape rooms, and the Coffin Ride, this is a PG-13 experience that tries its best to scare the pants off of adults.  Tickets and details available here.

WORDFEST

We’ve already mentioned Wordfest (just scroll down the page!) but the actual festival takes place October 9-15 with events taking place all over town! Have a look at these scheduled events and find something that tickles your fancy. Wordfest is a week of world-changing ideas presented by the world’s most interesting writers!

WIDE CUT WEEKEND

A relative newcomer to Calgary, the Wide Cut Weekend is three days of homegrown folk, country and rock that showcases the best local talents. Sponsored by the beloved radio station CKUA, Wide Cut Weekend is coming back for its third year October 12-14, and locals can’t wait. The Wide Cut Weekend takes place at five venues downtown, including the Ironwood Stage and Grill, the Blues Can, Mikey’s Juke Joint and more, and a weekend pass will net you access to 25+ artists and dozens of concerts. If you love live music, there’s no better place to be than Calgary this October. Tickets and details here.
